Tourism is one of India�s largest industries contributing at least 6.5 per cent to the economy of the country. There are around 18 million international tourists visiting the various tourist cities in India, the World Heritage Sites, wildlife parks and the pilgrimage centers. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Tamil Nadu and New Delhi are the top states with highest inflow of foreign nationals. The metropolitan cities of Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi are sought after for their vibrant nightlife, world class hotels, markets and various places of entertainment. The Commonwealth Games of 2010 gave a significant boost to the tourism industry of New Delhi.

Agra � Home to the marble mausoleum the Taj Mahal, Agra is a famous city on the tourism map of India. On the Yamuna banks stands the historical city that is replete with architectural wealth of the Mughal era. Taj Mahal is listed among the Seven Wonders of the World and is a World Heritage Site. Agra Fort, built with few meters of the Taj Mahal is another heritage site. A drive of few kilometers to the outskirts will take you to the erstwhile Mughal capital, Fatehpur Sikri. Other attractions here include the Akbar�s Tomb at Sikandra, Jama Masjid, Ram Bagh and the Mughal Heraitage Walk.

New Delhi � India's capital, New Delhi serves as the seat of the country�s political and judiciary system. The Parliament and Supreme Court of India are located here. Popular as the Pink City, Jaipur is acclaimed by global tourists for its architectural wealth. Amer Fort, Amber Palace, Nahargarh Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal and the Jantar Mantar are exemplary work of art.

Jaisalmer � A city in Rajasthan that gained prominence with the movie of Satyajit Ray, Sonar Kella, Jaisalmer is known as the City of the Golden Fort. The fort made of yellow sandstone forms the heart of this city. Within the fortified walls of this fort, maintained by the Archeological Survey of India, there are several handicraft stores, jewelry and garment shops. Around 45 km from the city center is the Sam sand Dunes and the arid Thar Desert. They are ultimate places for camel safari and desert camping.

Varanasi � One of India�s oldest cities, Varanasi is located on the banks of the Ganga. It is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site with devotees thronging the Vishwanath Temple and the many ghats here throughout the year. Early morning boat ride is an activity you will enjoy here.

Hyderabad � You can visit Hyderabad to see some of the finest example of Islamic architecture and savor Arabian style cuisine. This city even with its modern innovations retains the medieval charm and splendor. The Char Minar, The Chowmahalla palace, Golconda Fort and the Salar Jung Museum, Birla Temple and the Nehru Zoological Park are among the top tourist attractions. The Ramoji Rao Film City is a great entertainment and recreation park.

Mumbai � The commercial capital of the country, Mumbai is popular as the City of Dreams. Dotted with posh colonies, bars, clubs and pubs, Mumbai is a bustling metro. Islamic architecture is an integral part of the city�s landscape. The mosques in the city are also an example of the Muslim craftsmanship. Louis Khan designed the Indian Institute of Management. Srinagar � �This city in Jammu and Kashmir is popular for its lakes, houseboats and Mughal gardens. The traditional Kashmiri handicrafts, pashmina shawls, apples and dry fruits are popular buys. Dal Lake is the prominent tourist hub with a number of houseboats offering rides and accommodation facilities to visitors. Nagin is another lake populat for eco tourism activities.
