Temples of Vrindavan

Vrindavan is a sacred town which is located in Mathura district of the state of Uttar Pradesh. This place is most famous for the numerous temples that are built here in reverence to lord Krishna and his love Radha. The splendid temples of Vrindavan are testimonial to the rich past when the people were more religious by mind and were concerned more about the refined aspects of art and creativity. On your India temple tour, you will come across a large number of temples that are dotted all over the town. Some of the famous ones among these are:

Banke-Bihari Temple:
It is a magnificent temple that was built in the year 1862 and is one of the most popular ones in Vrindavan. The temple houses an image of Banke-Bihari that was discovered by Swami Haridas in Nidhi Vana, who was an ardent devotee of Krishna.

Madan Mohan Temple:
Built by Kapur Ram Das of Multan (Pakistan), this temple is located near the Kali Ghat. It is one of the oldest temples of Vrindavan and is closely linked with the saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. There is a replica of the image of Lord Madan Gopal which is worshipped at the temple.

Sri Radha Raman Mandir:
This temple was constructed around 1542 at the request of Gopala Bhatta Goswami and remains one of the most exquisite and venerated temples of Vrindavan, particularly by the Goswamis. Here, you will find the original saligram deity of Krishna, beside Radharani. Sri Krishna-Balrama Temple:
This is a splendid temple constructed and maintained by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in a place called Raman-Reti. The presiding deities of this temple are Krishna & Balaram, with Radha-Shyamasundar and Gaura-Nitai alongside. Next to the temple is the mausoleum of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON. It is built in pure white marble.

Radha Vallabha Temple:
It is one of the popular Vrindavan temples that was founded by Harivamsa Gosvami, who laid the foundation of Radha Vallabha sect. One would not find the deity of Radharani here, instead a crown has been placed next to Krishna to imply her presence. Invading foreign armies ruined the original temple in the year 1670 and a new one was constructed just beside the original site.

Some of the other temples to mention are Jaipur Temple, Radha Damodara Temple, Rangji Temple, Jugal Kisore Temple and Radharamana Temple.

How to reach Vrindavan:

The nearest airport located near Vrindavan is Agra and you can reach here from the various important destinations of India as well. The rail network of Vrindavan is excellent, the nearby railhead being in Mathura that links the other destinations of north India. The road transport is also commendable and regular services of state transport buses are available from Mathura for reaching Vrindavan.
