Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarkhand is a major tourist attraction in North India. It is located in the Garhwal area. It is a popular hill station and a preferred tourist destination for travelers both from India and abroad. Since the British rule in India, Dehradun has continued to be a popular summer resort. The city usually has a temperate climate and is not too hot even during summer. The city has many tourist attractions to check out. The district is blessed by natural attractions such as the Ganges and the Yamuna rivers. Popularly known as the Doon Valley, it lies in between Shivalik range and the magnificent Himalayas.

Forest Research Institute: Forest Research Institute was founded as Imperial Forest Research in the year 1906. The institute functions under Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. The architecture of the building is unique as it flaunts the Greco-Roman style. The building has achieved the status of National Heritage. It is spread across an area of 450 hectares and faces the Himalayas. The lush greenery around the building only adds to the beauty of the place. The institute came up with the aim to set up a research base in forestry for regions of Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab and Chandigarh.

Sahasradhara: If you are waiting to have some fun in Dehradun, Sahasradhara is the place for you. It�s a picnic spot, which is a must visit. The place attracts with sparkling springs flowing down the hills along with Baldi River. The place is about 11 kilometers from Dehradun. Waterfalls and hot springs at this location are quite famous for their healing powers.

Tapkeshwar Temple: Another great place to visit is the Tapkeshwar Temple. It�s an ancient cave temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple lies in Garhi Cantonment area. This also has a seasonal river, which enters the cave through the ceiling.

The Sericulture Centre: The centre is located at a distance of 8 kilometers from Premnagar. It�s a research centre, which conducts researches on fishes and other marine creatures.

The Central Braille Press: As the biggest producer of Braille textbooks in India, Central Braille Press is quite famous. A trip to the place helps you know about the process undertaken for the production of such texts.

Malsi Deer Park: Dehradun has yet another great location for picnics. Malsi Deer Park is a great place to visit. It is situated at a distance of 10 kilometers from the main city. The place lies on the lower slopes of Sahaydri hills. It�s an interesting zoological park with creatures like horned deer, birds and neelgai. Picturesque surroundings make it an ideal location for outings.

Dakpatthar: Another leisure spot to check out in Dehradun is the Dakpatthar. It is located on the banks of river Yamuna. The place has natural surroundings with lush greenery contrasted with colorful gardens. The place has a government owned guest house with a swimming pool.

Rajaji National Park: This is yet another great place to visit in Dehradun. The beautiful surroundings of this national park are a major highlight of the place. Rajaji National Park came up in the year 1983. It was formed along with three distinct sanctuaries; Chillaand, Rajaji and Motichur. The park derived its name from the famous freedom fighter Late Sri C Rajgopalachari. The area is covered by Sal Forest, Khair-Sissoo forest and neighbored by Western Gangetic plains.

Robber's Cave: Robber�s Cave is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Dehradun. It�s a beautiful location, which is popularly known as Guchu Pani or Guchhipani. In the soothing atmosphere you will enjoy having a picnic. You can go for a trek and enjoy the wilderness of the place. The cave is surrounded by majestic cave. The place offers panoramic views of the same. The refreshing and sparkling stream adds to the beauty of the Robber�s Cave.

Durbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj: Located centrally in the city, this is a magnificent monument. It has both religious and historical importance. As the history goes, the city derived its name from Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji, who was a son of the seventh Sikh guru. This is a Gurudwara, which attracts travelers from all corners of the world. The white monument is a beauty in its own. It was constructed in 1707.

Tapovan: Lying on the banks of the holy Ganga river, Tapovan holds a great importance for tourists to Dehradun. This is known to be the penance ground for the famous saint Dronacharya. This area is now a holy ground for several saints and sages who take part in ceremonial activities and religious practices.
