Gangaur is one of the most sought after festival of Jaipur which is celebrated in the month of March and April every year. This festival which is especially meant for women is celebrated approximately for 16 days. The word �Gangaur� is derived from two words � Gan and Gauri which means �Shiva� and �Parvati� While the festival is celebrated by unmarried women to get the husbands of their choice, the married women celebrate this festival for the well being of their husband. This festival starts with the practice of gathering ashes from the holy fire and burying the seeds of barley. The seeds are watered everyday till it germinates. Women apply henna in their hands and carry water pots on their heads. On the seventh day of holi, unmarried women assemble with earthen pots with holes on them with a lamp inside and walk in a procession which continues for a fortnight. In Jaipur, there is a dish known as Ghewar, which is a special attraction of this festival. People buy and gift ghewar to friends and relatives. On the concluding day of the festival images of Gauri or Parvati are taken out in a procession of dressed camels, bullock carts and elephants depicting the departure of Gauri to her husband�s home.
