Parks and Gardens in Delhi

The capital city of India also has the dubious distinction of being one of the most polluted cities of the world. However, the administration has made commendable efforts to tackle the problem, and presently, New Delhi has seen a remarkable rise in the intensity of steps taken to combat pollution. One of the best ways to beautify the city and fight pollution at the same time is to maintain the existing parks and gardens in Delhi and build new ones wherever possible. Delhi has been ruled by many powerful dynasties including the mighty Mughuls and the British. The gardens built by these rulers gave Delhi worldwide fame as one of the most beautiful cities of the world. The Mughuls were particularly patronizing towards building lavish gardens. Today the New Delhi parks provide great respite from the dust and grime of the city. Morning walkers, fitness enthusiasts, and students find these parks and gardens ideal places of recreation. Some of these parks are also counted among the tourist attractions of New Delhi.

Some famous parks and gardens in Delhi:

Lodi gardens:
This garden is located near Safdurjungs tomb, on the Lodi Road. The park is open on all days and entrance is free. It is a well manicured garden and a major attraction of tourism in New Delhi. The chief attraction of the Lodi gardens, apart from a wide variety of trees and flowering plants, are the monuments built by the Sayyids and the Lodis. The park includes the tombs of Sikandar Lodi and Muhammad Shah. The other attractions include the tombs named Bara Gumbad, and Sheesh Gumbad. The park is the location of the national bonsai park, which has an impressive collection of Bonsai. The park is loved by the young and old alike.

Nehru Park:
This park is located on the Panchsheel Road, near the Cahnakyapuri diplomatic enclave. It is spread over 80 acres of greenery that provides pure, unpolluted air to the Delhiites. The park features an excellent collection of flowers, plants and trees. In addition, picturesquely created mounds, and rocks on which the famous words of Jawarhar Lal Nehru are inscribed. Music concerts every Sunday and free Yoga classes make this one of the most entertaining Parks and gardens in Delhi. The Nehru Park also features a snack bar and a swimming pool.

Deer park:
The deer park is so named due to the presence of deer, and some other animals that are sheltered in the park. The trees and flowers provide excellent ambience for a relaxed walk or a light jog in the morning or at dusk. The park is located near the Hauz Khas village and the Safdarjung Enclave. Nizamuddins Shrine is also located close to this park.

Talkatora gardens:
This place featured a huge water tank from which it has derived its name. This park is situated on the Willingdon Crescent road, and is known for an indoor stadium located within its perimeters. Many flower shows and other functions are held in this garden. It is well maintained and offers great relaxation to many tired souls in this bustling city.

The other notable Parks and gardens in Delhi include the Delhi ridge, Buddha Jayanti Park, Netaji Subhash Park, Mahatma Gandhi Park, and the Garden of five senses. The tours of New Delhi must include visits to at least some of these beautiful parks.
