Bharatpur is situated between 26�22� to 27�83� North Latitude and 76�53� to 78�17� East Longitude. The city is 184 km from Delhi is easily accessible by roads form Agra and Jaipur. The city is drained by three seasonal rivers - BanGanga, Rooparel and Gambhir and lies 100 m above sea level. Bharatpur is known as the Eastern Gate of Rajasthan and has boundaries with Gurgaon, Agra, and Mathura. The city is said to be founded by the Churaman and Badan Singh. The Jat power in Bharatpur reached its zenith under Suraj Mal who fortified the city by building a massive wall around it. He ruled the city between 1756 and 1767 AD.
