A Rajasthan safari usually refers to horse or camel safaris in the desert or the adjoining Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. These safaris have become very popular among tourists as they provide them a once in a lifetime chance to ride through the rugged terrain of Rajasthan, much like the medieval Rajputs had done for centuries. There are a large number of itineraries to choose from, among which the Shekhawati horse safaris are the most sought after. The horses and the adventurous tails are undoubtedly the most important aspects of any horse safari in Rajasthan. While choosing your Rajasthan safari, you can go through the following itinerary that covers a splendid route from Luni to Balotra, and also covers the well known horse and camel fair at Tilwara.

The horse and camel fair at Tilwara is an important fair of Rajasthan. It is also known as the Mali Nath cattle fair. Its origins go back to the 14th century, probably as a religious get together. The fair is organized on the dry river bed of River Khari. Local people revere the fair as they believe that the otherwise salty water of the river becomes sweet during this time. The fair is usually held in the month of March, after the festival of colors, Holi. It goes on for 15 days and a safari ending at the fair is an ideal way to explore and experience this enchanting attraction of tourism in Rajasthan. There are many attraction located around the fair grounds, including a huge shivalingam made of granite and said to weigh about 10 tonnes.
