A brief history of Delhi
Established in India from as early as 900 BC to 1930, Delhi has been festooned by numerous relics that serve as tablets on which its history is written. Going back to the period of mythology Delhi was earlier known as Indraprashtha, the scene of action of India's great epic, the Mahabharata.
Delhi, the main union territory of India comprises of eight cities. The British in 1911 shifted the capital of India from Kolkata to Delhi. The eighth city of New Delhi took shape in the imperial style of architecture. From then to now Delhi continues to throb with vitality.
Delhi was also witness to the glories of the Maurya Empire during 3rd century BC. Modern Delhi or New Delhi is the eighth city. It centers around Rashtrapati Bhawan and was formally inaugurated in 1931. This new city is today the capital of modern India.

By air:

Delhi is well connected by road to all major destinations in North India. The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is located at Kashmiri Gate, Sarai Kale-Khan and Anand Vihar. Delhi Transport Corporations of the neighboring states provide frequent bus services through Air Conditioned, Deluxe and Ordinary Coaches.
