Mumbai Stock Exchange

The Mumbai Stock Exchange or the Bombay Stock Exchange records the pulse of Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. The rise and fall of share prices, the swings of big corporate houses, the business strategies for growing capital and the intricacies of the growing economy of the country is calculated here in the Bombay stock Exchange or the Mumbai Stock Exchange.

One of the biggest stock exchanges in terms of transaction of amount, the Mumbai Stock Exchange consists of shares of 3,500 companies. Also referred to as the BSE, it is located in the Dalal Street of Mumbai.

Years back in mid 1850s an informal group of stock brokers had organized them under a banyan tree and contributed one rupee each and formed a society called Native Share and Stockbrokers Association which later came to be known in 1875 as the Bombay Stock Exchange or the Mumbai Stock Exchange.

Located in the Phiroze Jeejeebhoy Towers , a 387 feet tall building named after the Chairman of Mumbai Stock Exchange it stands as a towering structure of the rising Indian economy. Business houses from the Ambanis to the Birlas, from the Mallya to the Tatas are all anxious about the swings and upswings of Mumbai Stock Exchange.

However Premchand Roychand, a leading stockbroker was the man who decided the trading conventions and procedures of Mumbai Stock Exchange. The Dalal Street is often compared to the Wall Street in U.S.A, which houses the stock exchange of New York.

In the year 1993, when Mumbai was hit by severe blasts, the Stock Exchange was not spared. The blasts devastated the Mumbai Exchange and a few stockbrokers were trampled in a stampede. But the spirit of Mumbai is Never say Die and with that spirit the Indian economy is rising to greater heights now.
