Situated on the way between Jodhpur and Bikaner at a distance of 92 km from Jodhpur, Khimsar in the district of Nagaur takes you through the lanes of history and royalty far from the regular grind. Situated on the edge of the massive Thar Desert in the heart of Rajasthan, the unique town of Khimsar offers a wide range of attractions, historical and picturesque. The turrets and forts remain as epitomes of the rich and glorious past. This area began to be built circa 1523 AD. The old city is home to several mosques, one of which was commissioned by Emperor Akbar. Among festivals, the Nagaur cattle fair is an important cultural event of the area and it attracts a huge number of local people who come to trade and celebrate at this fair.

Later by mid 18th century, the royal family arrived to live here when a new zenana or ladies� quarter was constructed. Exclusive fine stone carved windows were built in this section to serve as screen between the ladies and the men in a room. Thakur Onkar Singh, the present chief and the 17th direct successor of Rao Karamsi (the original builder of the fort) created himself a royal additional wing in the 1940�s.
