Situated on the southwestern belt of India, the city of Trivandrum or Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of the state of Kerala in India. The city extends from latitude 8�29' N to longitude 76�59' E. Excellent rail, road, and air network connects the city to almost all the other major cities of India.

Climate of Trivandrum:
Due to its nearness to the sea, Trivandrum essentially has tropical climate. Any time of the year you can visit the city as it offers a very pleasant weather all through the year. The mercury can soar up to 36.2�C in summer and plunge to as low as 18.0�C during winter. Monsoons generally arrive around the month of May and carry on till November.

History of Trivandrum:
The city is said to have been associated with King Solomon whose ships were believed to have arrived at a port called Ophir. Merchants have been coming to these parts as early as 190 A.D for trade of sandalwood, spices, and ivory.

The city actually derived its name from the idol at the Sree Anantha Padmanabhaswami Temple which happens to be one of the main landmarks of the city. It was basically taken from the three words Thiru, Anantha and Puram, meaning the town of Anantha. Although no proper records of the history of the temple are available, the temple is believed to be several thousands years old.

Trivandrum gained prominence around the 18th century when the capital was relocated to this place from Padmanabhapuram. The previous kings of the then Travancore State, with the name of Padmanabhadas (servant of Lord), had devoted their lives to the service of the Lord who is assumed to dwell within the temple.
