Umaid Bhawan is made of marble and pink sandstone. This edifice was started in the year 1929 and took almost 16 years to get completed. According to old tales, this palace was built to employ the famine-struck farmer and workers. This building has been restored as the residence of the former rulers and a part of the palace has been converted into a hotel and a museum. Tourists can stay here in the hotel where they can experience the pleasure of visiting the museum with no extra cost.

Mandore Gardens, another important Place of tourist interest in Jodhpur is situated at a distance of 8 kilometers in Mandore. Here the tourists can find cenotaphs of Jodhpur rulers. The beautiful garden with high rock terraces is a popular picnic spot. The gate of the garden, known as the Ajitpol, is decorated with paintings of the gods and goddesses.

The Old Fort Museum is another of the interesting tourist places in Jodhpur. The palanquins, royal howdahs, a golden throne, pearl embedded shoes, paintings and mirrors and a magnificently embroidered royal tent is exhibited in this museum.

Balsamand Lake and Gardens is also an important tourist attraction in Jodhpur. This is situated at a distance of 5 km from Jodhpur. This lake was dug in AD 1159. The beautiful summer palace beside the lake is another interesting place worth a visit.
