Tour Itinerary for Char Dham

A visit to India is incomplete without a visit to the important religious places of the country. The religious tours of India include several itineraries that include visits to the most famous temples, mosques and churches of the country. The most revered religious places in India are near the Himalayas in the northern states of Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. The tour of Chardham (four pilgrimage centers) is one of the most important pilgrimages undertaken by the Hindus of India. Besides having tremendous religious importance, a tour itinerary of Chardham involves traveling through beautiful hilly terrain and visits to some of the most fascinating places in India. The four places included in the tour of Chardham are Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath. The tours have to follow the traditional path, starting from Yamunotri, moving on to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally, Badrinath.

A typical tour itinerary of Chardham spans over 10- 12 days. The tour starts off at New Delhi and the destinations covered are Hardwar, Barkot, Yamunotri, Harsil, Gangotri, Uttarkashi, Guptakashi, Gaurikund, Kedarnath, Joshimath, Badrinath, Pipalkothi, Rishikesh, culminating at Delhi.

Haridwar:
Arrival in Haridwar is followed by sightseeing in the city and overnight stay. The next day starts with a drive to Barkot, a 7-8 hours affair. The Kempty falls are visited en-route. Overnight halt is made at Barkot.

Yamunotri:
The journey to Yamunotri, the source of the river Yamuna, begins the next day. The route undertaken is usually via Hanuman Chatti and Phool Chatti. A trek to Yamunotri begins from Phool Chatti. After visiting the temple and the nearby places of interest, the pilgrims trek back to Phool Chatti, and back to Barkot for an overnight stay. The places of interest in Yamunotri include the Yamunotri temple, hot sulphur spring, Surya kund, Divya Shila, Sayanachatti, Janakichatti and Hanuman Chatti.

Harsil:
The next day the tour moves to harsil, a 5-6 hours drive via Uttar Kashi. Most itineraries include a stop at Gangnani for a dip in the hot water springs. A Chardham camp is set amidst a beautiful apple orchard. Harsil offers many sightseeing opportunities including beautiful meadows and lovely valleys. Overnight stay is usually arranged in the camp or other accommodation in Harsil.

Gangotri:
The next day is marked by journey to Gangotri, one of the holiest religious places in India. The scared submerged shivalinga, the Gangotri temple, and the glacier are the attractions of Gangotri. After sightseeing and a dip in the holy waters of Bhagirathi, tourists are driven back to UttarKashi for an overnight stay. Some itineraries include a trek to Goumukh, the source of the Ganges.

Kedarnath:
The journey to Kedarnath begins with a drive to Gaurikund. A trek from Gaurikund takes tourists to Kedarnath. After checking in at the hotel, sightseeing begins with a visit to the temple and Adi Chankaracharya memorial. After a full day�s visit to the temple and other nearby locations, tourist head back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

GuptaKashi:
The next day starts with a trek back to Gaurikund, followed by a drive to GuptaKashi. Overnight stay is arranged in Guptakashi.

Joshimath:
Early morning, the tour heads towards Joshimath , a 7- 8 hours drive via Chopta, a scenic spot. Arrival in Joshimath is followed by dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

Badrinath:
The final destination of the tour, Badrinath is reached after a 7 hour drive from Joshimath. Upon arrival, tourists visit the temple and take a holy dip in Tapt kund, a hot water pond. The Mana Village is the last village on the Indo-Tibetan border and can be visited form Badrinath. There are many revered spots near the village. Evening is marked by drive to Pipalkothi where overnight stay is arranged.

Rishikesh:
The penultimate day in the tour itinerary of Chardham brings tourists to Rishikesh via Devaprayag, 9 hour drive from Pipalkothi. Arrival in Rishikesh is followed by check in at hotel.

Delhi:
The tour of Chardham ends with a drive from Rishikesh to Delhi.
