Shekhawati Horse Safari

Rajasthan is famous as the home of the Rajput warriors, valiant and well versed with all the aspects of medieval warfare. Horse riding was the most important party of the lives of the people of Rajasthan in those days. Horses were the only means of fast transport, and they proved to be faithful companions during times of crises, as stories about Rana Pratap and his famous horse, Chetak prove. This region has been producing excellent horses since those times. Today, wars are a thing of the past, but the tradition of horse riding continues with the many desert horse safaris that have become an important aspect of tours in Rajasthan. The semi arid region of Shekhawati is one of the most beautiful areas of Rajasthan with its lofty sand dunes and splendid monuments. The Shekhawati Horse Safari is one of the best ways of exploring Rajasthan in all its glory.

A Shekhwati horse safari typically stretches over 7 14 days, and includes visits to major cities like Jaipur and Bikaner, apart from the tours in Shekhawati. Some tours provide airport transit from Delhi and offer overnight stays and sightseeing in Jaipur. The itinerary from Jaipur include the following

Drive to Churu , at a distance of 189 kilometers. Horse riding around Churu accompanied by guide. Overnight stay in Churu in camp.

From Churu, the tour moves on to Nawalgarh, Narsinghani and Ajitgarh. The rides go past many picturesque small farms and the countryside marked by khejri trees. From here the tour moves forward to Mandwa, crossing the Shekhawati villages en-route. Lunch haults at the magnificent sand dune is one of the highlights of any Shekhawati horse safari. The journey for the day ends at Mojas for an overnight stay.

From Mojas, the next destinations usually covered are Nangli and Dhakas. The high sand dune of Gogameri is the spot of the lunch halt. A local temple is a place worth a visit here. The tour moves to Dhakas , the overnight halt.

After breakfast, the horse safari moves through the heart of Shekhawati towards Takalsar. Mehansar, Gangiyasar are among the spots passed en-route.

The next dayss destination is Fatehpur, crossing the high sand dunes that offer a fantastic view of the surrounding desert. Fatehpur is a protected area comprising desert vegetation and supports many wildlife species like foxes, jackals, blue bird and deer. Overnight stay is at Fatehpur.

From Fatehpur, the Shekhawati horse safaris ussally move towards the nearby forested area, and crossing it, reach the grasslands near the Vibipur village. After a brief lunch halt, the safari moves towards Badi Roru, through a magnificent arid region. The camp site for overnight stay at Badi Roru is a typical Rajput village.

The tour moves on from here to the sandy areas of Ganeri and Salasar. Salasar is usually the last stop of most Shekhawati Horse Safaris. It is a major pilgrimage spot in Rajasthan. From here most operators provide transit to Delhi or other transit points in or near Rajasthan.
